  1. DAEMON 1 - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears in, "Fantastic, July, 1979".

"Eee-yah-ahh! Grant us O Gods that we may receive the promise of life in its fullest measure. That having bravely lived, so we might bravely die. O winds of destiny, the ship is yours. Let the journey begin!

I received a phone call one day from the editor, asking me to do an illustrated story serial, one that would go on and on from issue to issue, for as long as I wanted to do it. And I actually said I would, even though I'm not a writer, have never written a story in my life! I have this dopey idea that I can do anything, just say yes and then go figure out how to do it!

I found out in a hurry that writing a story is a lot harder than illustrating one, but somehow I managed to start this series about a heroic fantasy character named, "Daemon". It actually ran for a few issues before the magazine ceased publication. I sure hope that wasn't my fault!

Anyway, only a few of the illustrations from the story appear in this collection, and they are not in story order. My son, Stephen Jr., did all the story text lettering on a transparent overlay sheet for each illustration.
